Upgrades to VMware Workspace ONE and VMware App Volume enable customers to deliver new features with greater performance, scale, and speed.

PALO ALTO, CA – March 7, 2023 –As organizations navigate the changing demands of a hybrid workforce, they are challenged by operational complexities and legacy tools while supporting employees regardless of application, device or location. VMware today announces new VMware Anywhere Workspace platform enhancements, including radical changes to the Workspace ONE architecture that enable high performance and scalability for millions of endpoints; and new innovations in VMware App Volume that greatly reduce management time and infrastructure costs for virtual application and desktop environments. Together, these improvements enable IT teams to operate more efficient digital workspaces that provide a productive and reliable experience for their hybrid workforce.

“As the demands of hybrid work continue to evolve, organizations must constantly monitor changes, enforce reactive policies and implement new workflows. We believe that automation based on data science can greatly improve operational efficiency while transforming the IT workforce,” said Shankar Iyer, vice president and general manager of End User Computing at VMware. “87% of organizations surveyed in VMware’s latest report1 say they have increased their automation investments over the past two years. With the new Anywhere Workspace platform enhancements announced today, organizations can seamlessly integrate automation into every step of their IT workflow.”

Increase performance and speed by modernizing Workspace ONE SaaS

The past decade has seen tremendous growth in the number and type of mobile and desktop endpoints that Workspace ONE provides. VMware today introduces a modernized Workspace ONE SaaS architecture that delivers more than 10x performance and scale improvements2. The new container architecture follows SaaS best practices and rapidly delivers innovative solutions to meet changing customer needs.

As VMware continues to modernize the Workspace ONE architecture, organizations can expect:

  • Better performance and scalability: Customers can conveniently scale their deployments to millions of devices while experiencing high performance under resource load. This includes more than 10x better resource service performance for apps and profiles across all device platforms, as well as improved console load times for a better admin experience.
  • Faster function speed while improving product quality: Modular architecture enables more flexible development and greater product reliability, so customer IT teams can rely on VMware for same-day service support for the latest OEM and platform configurations.
  • A modern SaaS platform that enables new value-added services: Modern architecture enables new platform features such as Workspace ONE Freestyle Orchestrator and Desired State Management. This provides IT with a low-code and automated toolset to solve higher-level business problems in endpoint management, security, and user experience.

“Workspace ONE UEM has allowed us to extend ease of use for both remote and remote workers,” said Keith Bradley, vice president of IT and security at Nature Fresh Farms. “We can quickly deploy Workspace ONE on any device and provide a secure way for anyone to connect to our applications.”

“As Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) technology continues to evolve, VMware is driving innovation with Workspace ONE. By modernizing their SaaS platform, they have positioned themselves to accelerate feature speed and performance improvements,” said Phil Hochmuth, program vice president. . Endpoint Management and Enterprise Mobility, IDC. “Endpoint management teams play a critical role in improving operational efficiency and security in the digital workplace. To that end, the automation and desired state management capabilities provided by Workspace ONE hold great promise in helping these organizations. “

Automate anywhere with a unified orchestration framework

At VMware Explore 2022, we announced our vision for a unified orchestration framework that extends the capabilities of Freestyle Orchestrator beyond UEM use cases, making it available across all Workspace ONE services and third-party applications. By realizing this vision, existing customers of Workspace ONE Intelligence will now replace legacy automations with the unified Freestyle Orchestrator canvas. Customers can now build the same efficient, policy-based workflows, but with a modern, low-code canvas user interface.

Extending unified orchestration, VMware also announces the general availability of the new Workspace ONE Marketplace. Marketplace integrations allow organizations to connect third-party cloud applications and provide prepackaged solutions including actions, templates, and scripts. Prepackaged solutions and low-code orchestration make IT more efficient and simpler, streamlining use cases such as power-on and power-off, license optimization, security quarantine workflows, and more.

Streamline app delivery with apps for published apps

Building on the Apps on Demand feature released by VMware App Volumes last year, VMware now offers on-demand apps for published applications. The new feature helps IT reduce the management time and infrastructure costs of traditional published application deployments.

With VMware App Volumes, IT can eliminate the need for dedicated application farm infrastructure with a modern application-as-a-service model that deploys applications on demand when users access common RDSH servers. This removes the management overhead and infrastructure costs of traditional published application farms built for peak usage requirements. App Volumes also effectively separates the application layer from the operating system, enabling simpler application and operating system management and radically reducing the number of images IT needs to create and manage. With App Volumes, customers can capture legacy apps with 99% app compatibility and publish them anywhere – on-premises, in the cloud or through hybrid cloud deployments.
