Uninstall applications from a Mac

New Windows transplants to the Mac world may notice something odd: There’s nowhere to go in System Preferences when you want to uninstall an app. So how do you do it? By finding the app in the Finder and dragging it to the Trash.
No, really – it’s that simple. Open the Finderdirection Applicationsand drag programs you no longer want to Trash icon in your dock. You may be asked to enter your password or tap the fingerprint scanner, but that’s basically it – the app is removed. And if you prefer to use the keyboard, just use the keyboard shortcut Command + Delete.
That’s all you need to do: This is one of those things that is so simple that it’s complicated for new users. But once you adapt to macOS, it makes perfect sense.
Completely remove apps on macOS
The above method works well for the vast majority of people, but it has one drawback: it leaves some files behind.

When you use an app, you probably change settings from time to time. Your computer stores these settings and other software-related files buried in your user folder Library. Deleting them, along with deleting the app, is an easy way to free up storage space.
In theory, you could open this folder, find files related to a particular application, and then manually delete them. But it’s easier to choose a tool like AppCleaner: it’s free, easy to use, and widely recommended among Mac professionals. I’ve been using this app for years and never had a problem with it. After installing the software, you can drag and drop an app or click the icon in the upper right corner to see a list of apps running on your Mac.
Select any item from the list and a pop-up menu will appear containing the application and all of its associated files in the Library folder.
If you want to delete them, click on it Remove it. To uninstall the software in bulk, press and hold the Command button while clicking on the application name.

It’s a quick and easy way to uninstall apps in bulk on a Mac, and it does a very thorough job. App Cleaner even adds up the total weight of the items you want to delete, so you know exactly how much space you’re freeing up on your hard drive. Unfortunately, even with a tool like AppCleaner, you can’t delete apps built into your Mac. This frustrates many who want to remove things like Chess or prefer third-party software, but there’s really no way to do that without turning off security features that are best left untouched.
