The Santa Clauses returns for a new season on Disney+.
According to Deadline, Disney has given Santa Claus fandom an early Christmas present: a second season of the older sequel series, The Santa Clauses. The renewal comes on the same day that the last episode of the series’ now first season was released on Disney+. “This franchise has made a lasting impact for so many families and has truly become a part of their annual holiday traditions,” said Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis. “Bringing it back as a series has been a true gift, and I’m grateful to our producing partners at 20th Television and, of course, Tim Allen and the team, that we have another reason to celebrate this holiday season.”
Allen first appeared as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus in the 1994s Santa Claus and returned for two sequels, which were released in 2004 and 2006. I The Santa ClausesScott Calvin has been Santa Claus for nearly thirty years, “and he’s as happy as ever,” reads the season 1 synopsis. “But as Christmas declines in popularity, so does his Santa magic. Scott struggles to keep up with the demands of the job, as well as being there for his family.After discovering that there is a way to retire from his position, Scott considers stepping down as Santa Claus and finding a worthy successor so that he can be a better father and husband.”
The Santas are another successful legacy series on Disney+
Since its launch in 2019, Disney+ has found success developing new series around older legacy titles such as Santa Claus Movies. Other older series that have been embraced by fans new and old include The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series and Monsters at workwith National Treasure: Edge of History and Willow join The Santa Clauses as the latest Disney+ series based on older franchises.
Starring together with Allen in The Santa Clauses are Elizabeth Mitchell, Kal Penn, Austin Kane, Elizabeth Allen-Dick, Matilda Lawler, Devin Bright and Rupali Redd as Carol Calvin/Mrs. Claus, Simon Choksi, Scott and Carol’s children Buddy “Cal” Calvin-Claus and Sandra Calvin-Claus, the elves Betty and Noel, respectively, and Simon’s daughter Grace. Eric Lloyd and David Krumholtz also reprized their roles from the film trilogy as Charlie Calvin and Bernard the Elf respectively for guest appearances.
The first season of The Santa Clauses is available to stream in its entirety on Disney+. A release window for Season 2 has not yet been announced by the streaming service.
