Temu App: Is It Legit, Scam Concerns & How To Download

Following the increased marketing momentum from 2023, the Temu app has gained serious momentum, prompting many buyers to check it out. However, as new marketplaces begin to break into the mainstream, they are usually met with a healthy dose of skepticism.

While it’s always a good impulse to be careful about putting sensitive information in any app, here’s everything you need to know about Temu — and if you really should be careful.

What is Temu?

Temu is an online shopping app similar to Amazon that claims to offer the best deals online. With over 250 different categories to choose from, it functions as an all-encompassing shopping app as opposed to an app for specific interests. However, Temu claims to be unique as it has lower prices than other online sellers. While this isn’t always true for non-sale items, full price items are sold at, at least, similar, if not the same, prices to Amazon, Target, or Walmart.

However, frequent sales and multi-week deals are common on the app, which means it’s worth looking there first before buying anything online to see if you can get what you’re looking for a little cheaper. However, note that not all major brands sell on Temu yet, as it is still an emerging market. However, there are still plenty of big brands that are already sold there.

As mentioned above, there was quite a bit of skepticism directed at Temu, which is only natural. Anytime an app deals with sensitive information—like your credit card numbers and home address—it’s good to be scared. Concerns about Temu’s legitimacy, however, can be easily dispelled. Although new, the app is backed by PDD Holdings Inc., a multi-billion dollar company with years of global trading experience.

In terms of other forms of verified legitimacy, Temu supports many forms of secure payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and most credit cards. Temu seems to be just as legit as all the other major online retailers.

Temu Scam?

In short, no, Temu is not a scam. It’s a completely legitimate online shopping marketplace that has faced people’s skepticism, as do all new online retailers.

There appears to be additional unfounded fear of the company as its parent company, PDD Holdings Inc., is based in China. However, there is plenty of evidence to show that PDD Holdings Inc. is a legitimate company and there is nothing suspicious.
