‘Strange World’ is reportedly coming to Disney+ by the end of the year – What’s happening on Disney Plus
Last year, while the pandemic was still causing some problems, Disney did an experimental 30-day theatrical release window for the animated film “Encanto,” where the film was released in theaters on Thanksgiving and then arrived on Disney+ on Christmas Eve.
This strategy paid off, with “Encanto” grossing over $250 million at the box office and going on to become a behemoth on Disney+, with massive ratings, making “Encanto” a phenomenal success.
This Thanksgiving, Disney is releasing the animated film “Strange World” in theaters around the world, and many, including myself, have theorized that Disney would do a similar release strategy this year, in order to get the film to Disney+ for the Christmas and New Year period.
And now it appears to be the cast, as Deadline has reported that the exhibit (theaters) have been told that Disney’s animated Thanksgiving release “Strange World” will hit Disney+ in time for the year-end holiday.
It was also revealed by Deadline, that “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” is not coming early on Disney+, as it is a robust theatrical window, which is definitely more than 45 days, and that there are no plans for a holiday slowdown on Disney+.
Disney has not officially announced that “Strange World” will be coming to Disney+ during the Christmas holiday, since it logically wants to increase the number of people who go to the theaters during the Thanksgiving holiday in order to increase the box office. With “Encanto,” Disney announced the Disney+ release date in advance, which no doubt affected moviegoing families, since a month’s wait isn’t that long.
“Weird World” introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an unknown, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous crag, a three-legged dog and a host of ravenous creatures. The voice cast also includes Dennis Quaid as Searcher’s larger-than-life father, Jaeger; and Lucy Liu as Callisto Mal, Avalonia’s fearless leader who spearheads the exploration of weird world.
