New movies and TV in February 2023
Disney+ UK has taken a slightly different approach to Valentine’s Day, with the streamer releasing something less overtly romantic as its flagship offering around the most romantic day of the year. While the platform hosts a number of romantic films and series, including Love Simon and John Tucker Must Die, the main release in February is the divorce-focused TV drama Fleishman Is In Trouble.
On the film front, there’s greatness in town when Black Panther: Wakanda Forever arrives, showing how the fictional African nation reacts to the sudden death of King T’Challa. Letitia Wright and Angela Bassett – who has been nominated for an Oscar for their performance – take center stage this time.

Original films coming to Disney+ UK in February 2023
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (February 1)
Ryan Coogler’s return to the Black Panther franchise was always going to have a shadow of sadness hanging over it, following the tragic death of leading man Chadwick Boseman. The film wears many hats, serving as a tribute to Boseman, part of the interconnected MCU tapestry and a straight action adventure that introduces the villain Namor (Tenoch Huerta) and his underwater kingdom.

Letitia Wright’s Shuri and Angela Bassett as the new Queen Ramonda serve as the nominal leads, but this is even more of an ensemble piece than the first Panther film. It’s a fitting tribute to Boseman, as well as a compelling and exciting superhero epic. That’s no mean feat.
Darby and the Dead (February 27)
Riele Downs stars as the titular teenager in this supernatural comedy from prolific TV director Silas Howard. Darby developed unusual abilities after she was saved from an accident that killed her mother – she can talk to the dead. She has used this ability to start a business where she helps the dead move on into the afterlife by solving unfinished business they couldn’t sort out while they were alive. Naturally, this job has alienated her from friends, including her former best friend – played by Moana lead Auliʻi Cravalho.
Original TV series coming to Disney+ UK in February 2023
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder S2 (all episodes from February 1)
After debuting on Disney+ last year, this reboot of the noughties animated series The Proud Family returns to the streamer for a second season. Set in the present day, it follows 16-year-old African-American girl Penny Proud and her family as they navigate modern life and its many challenges.
Call It Love (premiere February 22)
This romantic Korean drama follows the story of Sim Woojoo (Lee Sung-kyung), who is kicked out of the family home by his father’s mistress, only to end up falling in love with said mistress’s son (Kim Young-kwang). It’s an exciting romance that’s part of a whole series of Korean TV and movies headed to Disney+ in the near future.
Fleishman Is In Trouble (all episodes from February 22)
Jesse Eisenberg plays the title role in this drama miniseries, with Toby Fleishman, a recently divorced doctor who dives into the world of dating apps for the first time.
