MICKEY SAVES CHRISTMAS Animated Stop-Motion Special is now streaming on Disney+ and Hulu
Disney’s Mickey saves Christmas has come to Disney+ and Hulu and is now available to stream for subscribers to both services. The stop-motion animated special debuted over the weekend on Disney Channel and Disney Junior as part of the networks’ merry and festive programming, but starting today it’s available to watch on both streaming services.
The holiday special is a collaboration between Disney and Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (Robot Chicken, Titan Maximum, SuperMansion). Stoopid Buddy Stoodios specializes in stop-motion animation and also produced the animated short Mickey Mouse and Magical snow holiday for Disney Junior back in 2020. The stop-motion animation of Mickey saves Christmas should remind many viewers of holiday TV classics of the 1960s and 70s produced by Rankin/Bass Productions, the company behind classics such as Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer and A year without a Santa.
Mickey saves Christmas follows Mickey, Minnie and the rest of their friends as they try to celebrate the perfect Christmas in their snowy cabin. But when Pluto causes Santa to lose all the presents on his sleigh, the group must travel to the North Pole to save Christmas and find the true meaning of the holiday.
When Pluto’s attempt at fetch causes Santa to crash his sleigh and lose all the presents, Mickey and friends must travel to the North Pole to save Christmas.
Mickey saves Christmas is directed by David H. Brooks (Ultra City Smiths) and features original music from songwriting team Laura Schein and Ben Zeadman (Honor society). Brooks spoke to Animation Magazine and specifically named Tim Burton’s The nightmare before Christmas as one of the inspirations for the special, along with previous 2D Mickey Mouse Christmas movies.
The voice cast includes Bret Iwan as Mickey Mouse, Kaitlyn Robrock as Minnie Mouse, Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck, Tress MacNeille as Daisy Duck, and Bill Farmer as Goofy and Pluto. Married couple Brock Powell and Camryn Grimes voice Santa and Mrs. Claus, respectively.
Mickey Saves Christmas was part of Disney Channel’s Fa-lala-lidays and Disney Junior’s Magical Holidays programming. From now until January 2, viewers can watch special holiday-themed episodes Marvel’s Spidey and his amazing friends, Puppy Dog Pals, Alice’s Wonderland Bakery, and Eureka!
