Love Island Shaq asks Tanya to be his girlfriend on a romantic last date
The long-awaited final dates returned to Love Island on Thursday night’s episode and there was no shortage of romantic declarations.
Shaq Muhammad took advantage of the very picturesque setting to ask Tanya Manhenga to be his girlfriend as the first-day couple finally made things official.
Meanwhile, Tom Clare also made a gesture of his own when he admitted he was in love with Samie Elish during their romantic last date.
Shaq, 24, an airport security worker, and Tanya, 23, a biomedical student, have had their ups and downs in the villa, but now they seem to love each other more than ever.
And the pair finally made things official on their final date, enjoying a romantic drink together under a stunning arch of flowers and fairy lights.
After being serenaded by the band, they sweet-talked about their trip on the ITV2 date before Shaq popped the big question.
First, Tanya exclaimed, “It’s been through a lot of ups and downs, but I feel like the more we’ve been through, it’s made us more honest.
“I feel like every time we argued, in my mind you were still rent-free and then you went through Casa Amor and came back and even when it was someone else, it was always you.
“If all this had happened at the beginning, we would have cracked and broken. But I feel like we’re over that.
“Honestly, I feel like we’ve been through the worst and I feel like it’s prepared me. I found someone who really cares about me. What a man!’
Then Shaq said, “The way I feel about you, I think the right thing to do is to make you my girlfriend.”
To which a squealing Tanya replied, “Ah! What? Stop! Are you sure?’
Shaq then said, “He’s never been sure before,” before Tanya asked him again, “Are you sure, baby?”
Shaq formally asked her, “Will you be my girlfriend?”
To which an excited Tanya replied: ‘Um, yes!’
The pair then quickly jumped up and hugged tightly as they looked happier than ever.
And their date wasn’t the only one with a very romantic statement, as Tom, 23, and Samie, 22, both went heart-to-heart on their last date.
The semi-professional soccer player and the real estate agent coordinator traveled to their appointment in a flashing red vehicle.
After being treated to a private mountainside restaurant in the middle of a lake decorated with red rose petals, they were even serenaded by a harpist.
The pair sweetly held hands as they walked down the petal-covered path, before getting a little romantic as they enjoyed a drink together.
Tom has revealed that he thought Samie was the one when he first met her and said the ‘bumps’ in the South African villa only made them stronger.
She described the first time she laid eyes on him, exclaiming, “When you first walked in, I was like, ‘Wow!’ And yes, from the get-go, I just envisioned you in a tunnel. I know we’ve had bumps and stuff along the way and look, yeah, I screwed up, I knew I was going to turn it around.
He went on to say how happy he was to beat Casa Amor, adding: “And when you gave me a second chance, it just buzzed. I wrote you a poem, it was a good little poem, it was. We had a bit of a crazy trip. Would I change it?
“No, just because I feel like that’s what made us so strong.” I haven’t liked a girl like that in a long time. You know how big family is to me and I think you do too.
“I would dream of a girl dating my sister. I can imagine you sitting with my sister and I know you get along so well.
“I feel like my mother is going to cry – she cries over everything! We’re in it together now. They have each other, there will be hard times, but you know you can trust me with anything.
Tom then sweetly declared his crush on Samie as he expressed his feelings during the very romantic date.
He added: “I feel like I’ve met the person I’ve been looking for. It feels so natural and pleasant. I can not lie. I’m falling in love with you. It’s scary to say, but there’s no girl I’d rather be with.
To which Samie replied: ‘Now you’ve left me speechless!’
An over the moon Samie then admitted she was looking forward to meeting Tom’s family and said she wasn’t worried about them having to look far and wide when they returned home as she lives in London while Tom lives in Barnsley.
He said: “I can’t wait to meet the whole family. I feel like we have to wait a long time.
“Obviously you live in Barnsley and I live in London, but that doesn’t bother me.” Every day my feelings are getting stronger and stronger. I feel like I’m falling for it, if not, I’m falling for it.
Elsewhere in the episode, Ron Hall and Lana Jenkins enjoyed their final date, but viewers couldn’t help but comment on one aspect of the occasion.
The couple were sent to a place by the river where they had breakfast on a raised platform in the middle of the water, where they sat in the lake without shoes.
However, many viewers took to Twitter to lightheartedly liken it to Shrek’s swamp, while others pointed out that they wouldn’t at all like to eat with their feet in water.
One joked: “Shrek gives me a swamp #loveisland!” while another said: “My feet wouldn’t be in that water when I’m on that date, just waiting for some animal to jump out!”
Another responded: “I wonder if there are fish in that lake that eat the dead skin,” as a fourth quipped: “It’s like shoving Sims into the lake during dinner.”
Someone else wrote: “I don’t like the idea of eating at the table with wet feet.”
Another wrote: “I couldn’t sit there with my bare feet in the water. I would only ask that they send me home on the next flight.
Another person tweeted: I could NOT relax with my feet cold in that water.
During their date, Ron and Lana seemed to get along great as they talked about their future.
Ron said “Day one and now look where we are, having breakfast on a river with a floating date!”
“I never thought I’d find a girl who ticked all the boxes.” I want you to meet my family.

“My mommy will love you, she’ll see how nice you are, and she’ll know you’re good to me.”
An emotional Lana replied: “I feel overwhelming joy!”
‘I’m just buzzing that we’ve had this journey together and now we’re here, I’ve loved every minute of it.’
Then every couple had it to turn their attention to the vote, as they have decided who they think is the least compatible in the villa.
