Disney+ Originals coming to Disney+ in December 2022 – What’s happening on Disney Plus

This December, Disney+ is getting lots of new originals, including new episodes of “Willow” and Santa Clause, plus a host of other specials and movies.

Here’s a look at some of the new Disney+ Originals heading to our screens this December:

Willow

An epic fantasy series with a contemporary sensibility set in an enchanted land of stunning beauty, “Willow” features a diverse international cast with Jonathan Kasdan, Ron Howard, Wendy Mericle, Kathleen Kennedy and Michelle Rejwan as executive producers. The story began with an aspiring magician from a village in Nelwyn and an infant girl destined to unite the realms, who together helped destroy an evil queen and banish the forces of darkness. Now, in a magical world where brownies, wizards, trolls and other mystical creatures flourish, the adventure continues, as an unlikely group of heroes embark on a dangerous quest to places far beyond their home, where they must face their inner demons and come together to to save their world.

New episodes are released every Wednesday throughout December


The Santa Clauses

Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizes he can’t be Santa Claus forever. He suddenly begins to lose his goblin magic, and more importantly, he has a family that could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially his two children who have grown up in the North Pole. With many elves, children and family to enjoy, Scott sets out to find a suitable replacement elf while preparing his family for a new adventure in life south of the Pole.

The last two episodes will be released on the first two Wednesdays in December.


National Treasure: Edge of History

Jess Valenzuela’s life is turned upside down when an enigmatic stranger gives her a clue to a centuries-old treasure that may be linked to her long-dead father. Jess has a knack for solving puzzles, and her skills are put to the test as she and her friends follow a series of clues hidden in American artifacts and landmarks. But can Jess outwit a black market antiques dealer in a race to find history’s greatest lost treasure and reveal the truth about her family’s past?

The first two episodes will be released on Disney+ on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, with new episodes released weekly.


Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules

The troubled antics of anxious, disaster-prone high school student Greg Heffley continue, this time focusing on his complicated relationship with older brother Rodrick. Now Greg takes on one of his biggest challenges yet – surviving a weekend alone with Rodrick and following his growing list of rules.

Encanto at the Hollywood Bowl

This live-to-film concert experience gives you a front-row seat to the one-of-a-kind musical extravaganza celebrating the world, characters and songs of Disney Animation’s “Encanto.”

Pentatonix: Around the world for the holidays

Superstar a cappella group Pentatonix are struggling to find inspiration for their annual holiday album, and the clock is ticking. To make matters worse, their well-intentioned but misled leads them wrongly into a magical mail room. But with the help of a little Disney magic, we’re soon on a whirlwind tour around the world, discovering holiday traditions and inspiration from Pentatonix fans all over the world: from Japan to Grenada, Iceland to Ghana and Mexico. The journey leads the group to realize that no matter where we are, the holiday provides the perfect opportunity to discover how much we have in common and that it really is a small world after all!

Idina Menzel: Which way to the stage?

Beloved Tony Award-winning actress and singer Idina Menzel’s many triumphs include iconic Broadway roles in productions of “Rent” and “Wicked” as well as the legendary voice of Elsa in Disney’s “Frozen.” Yet one dream goal has eluded her grasp: to headline a concert at world-famous Madison Square Garden in her hometown of New York City. Filmmaker Anne McCabe follows Menzel on a 16-show national tour as she juggles the challenges of being a working mother with a grueling travel schedule, all while preparing to finally realize her dream.

But when the mad ruler Kahmunrah escapes, it’s up to Nick to save the museum once and for all.

On the 10th anniversary of Violetta’s release, Tini gathers with her former co-stars to celebrate, giving her fans an intimate, unique and unforgettable show. Tini, Jorge Blanco, Candelaria Molfese and Mercedes Lambre gave the audience a memorable evening with their new versions of five of the show’s songs.

If these walls could sing

For more than 90 years, Abbey Road Studios has been at the heart of the music industry. Fans travel every year to have their photos taken at the world-famous zebra crossing, and artists strive to follow in the footsteps of their heroes. In this personal film of memory and discovery, Mary McCartney guides us through nine decades to see and experience the creative magic that makes it the most famous and longest-lived studio in the world. From classical to pop, soundtrack to hip-hop, Disney Original Documentary’s “If These Walls Could Sing” explores the breadth, diversity and ingenuity of Abbey Road Studios. Intimate interviews reveal how leading artists, producers, composers and dedicated engineers and staff at Abbey Road all found their musical language and community, while live archival recordings and session tapes provide exclusive access to these famous private studios. With, among others, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Elton John, Roger Waters, Liam Gallagher, John Williams, Celeste and Sheku Kanneh-Mason.

Le Pupille

From writer and director, Alice Rohrwacher, and Oscar®-winning producer, Alfonso Cuarón, “Le Pupille” is a tale of innocence, greed and imagination. This live action short is about desires, pure and selfish, about freedom and devotion, and about the anarchy that is able to flourish in the minds of girls within the framework of a strict religious boarding school at Christmas.

“Le Pupille” comes to Disney+ on Friday the 16th. December 2022


The Mysterious Benedict Society – Season 2

This season, Reynie, Sticky, Kate and Constance, the four gifted orphans recruited by the eccentric Mr. Benedict, embark on a new mission to save the world from his twin brother Dr. LD Curtain’s sinister plans. When the kids discover that Mr. Benedict and Number Two have been kidnapped, they must piece together the puzzles and clues in a dangerous scavenger hunt set up by Mr. Benedict to thwart Curtain’s latest scheme. Relying only on their wits, intellect and empathy, the charming group of misfits embark on a worldwide adventure by air, land, sea and pie truck, calling on their special skills to solve the mysteries and rescue their lost comrades. Along the way, the children experience the growing pains that come with being part of their new “found family” while remaining true to their unique selves. In the process, they discover what true happiness really means.

The final episode of the second season will arrive on Disney+ on Wednesday, December 7, 2022. The entire series will also be released on Disney+ in Canada on the same day.

Welcome to Chippendales

“Welcome to Chippendales” is a sprawling true crime saga that tells the outrageous story of Somen “Steve” Banerjee, an Indian immigrant who became the unlikely founder of the world’s largest male stripping empire – and stopped at nothing in the process . .

New episodes of “Welcome to Chippendales” are released on Disney+ on Tuesdays in many countries, including Australia, New Zealand and Canada.


Fleishman is in trouble

Fleishman Am in Problems” is the story of recently divorced 41-year-old ‘Toby Fleishman‘ (Jesse Eisenberg), who dives into the brave new world of app-based dating with the kind of success he never had dating in his youth, until he got married at the end of medical school. But just at the start of his first summer of sexual freedom, his ex-wife, ‘Rachel’ (Claire Danes), disappears, leaving him with 11-year-old ‘Hannah’ (Meara Mahoney Gross) and 9-year-old ‘Solly’ (Maxim Swinton) and no indication of her whereabouts or whether she plans to return. As he balances parenthood, the return of old friends “Libby” (Lizzy Caplan) and “Seth” (Adam Brody), a long-overdue potential promotion at the hospital—and all the eligible women Manhattan has to offer—he realizes that he will never be able to find out what happened to ‘Rachel’ until he can finally see what happened to their marriage in the first place.

New episodes of “Fleishman Is In Trouble” are released on Disney+ in Australia, New Zealand and Canada every Thursday in December.


Darby and the Dead

After suffering a near-death experience as a young girl, Darby Harper (Downs) gains the ability to see dead people. As a result, she becomes introverted and ostracized from her high school peers and prefers to spend her time counseling lonely spirits who have unfinished business on Earth. But all that changes when Capri (Cravalho), Queen Bee of the school’s most exclusive clique, unexpectedly dies in a freak hair straightening accident, resulting in the apparent cancellation of her upcoming “Sweet 17.” However, Capri asks Darby from the other side to intervene and convince Capri’s friends to go ahead with the party as planned. To quell the wrath of the undead diva, Darby must emerge from her self-imposed exile and reinvent herself – along the way, allowing her to find new joy back in the land of the living.

“Darby and the Dead” arrives on Disney+ worldwide on Friday, April 2. December 2022.
