LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: A British man has been heavily criticized for his high-profile love affair. Dan Swygart, 26, reportedly flew to Shauna Rae Lesick’s hometown of Long Island, New York so they could meet in person. Their meeting was documented on an episode of the TLC show I Am Shauna Rae. Unlike other couples, the strange thing about their love story is that the 26-year-old man is dating a 23-year-old woman trapped in the body of an eight-year-old.

Although they both have similar interests and are in love, Dan from Wales has been called “sick” and “torturer” by netizens for dating a woman who looked like a third grader and forcing them to put their budding romance on hold and remain friends. However, a recent update on their relationship claims that the two are “still good friends” and continue to “know each other.” Fans of the reality star are very protective of her and even criticize her parents for influencing her personal development.

Better as friends than as a couple?
Shauna, who is 610 inches tall and weighs 50 pounds, was diagnosed with brain cancer and her growth was stunted by the side effects of the treatment. Shauna and Dan met through social media and soon realized they had “similar” interests. After Dan appeared on the TLC reality show that chronicled the two’s first meeting, he was bombarded by people who questioned his motives for dating a girl with children. Soon after, Dan announced that they were better as friends than as a couple.

However, three months after the episode aired, Dan shared an update on the couple’s relationship. Sharing the news on his Instagram Stories, Dan wrote, Dan wrote: “Literally every single time I go on Facebook or YouTube, all I see are videos of me and Shauna,” the Daily Mail reported. He added: “Me and Shauna are still good friends, we know each other.”

“He’s coming back!”
Dan initially reached out to Shauna after watching the first season of her show and being “inspired by her emotional strength”. She sent the reality star some flowers and a card that read: “Live your best life. I wish you all the happiness you deserve.” After Dan flew to New York to meet Shauna, they went on a series of dates, after which Shauna talked about how “similar” she and Dan – who share an interest in travel and adventure, which “piqued his interest”.

The couple spent their first day in an aquarium and escape room, which was featured on the show. In the next episode, Dan came over to Shauna’s house to make sushi rolls. “I didn’t really think about whether Dan and I were in a relationship and what that would look like,” she admitted during the show. At the end of Dan’s visit to the States, Shuana said, “I’m sure I’ll see Dan again. He’ll be back.”
