Cole Sprouse has split over comments he made about ex-girlfriend Lili Reinhart in a controversial interview

Cole Sprouse was ripped by a number of Twitter users after he made controversial comments about ex-girlfriend Lili Reinhart in an interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old actor, who dated his Riverdale beau for two years before splitting in January 2020, raised eyebrows when he claimed that “almost all of his girlfriends” had cheated on him, one of several surprising sentiments he revealed in the chat .

One user said the Arezzo, Italy-born entertainer was “so bored with her life that she felt the need to go on the most annoying podcast ever, which is to bash other people to talk. [about] a relationship that has been over for years!!!’

Another said Sprouse was “really weird” when he “privately aired details of their breakup while the series was still in production,” saying “repeatedly” that he left Reinhart, 26, and should have done so earlier.

Cole was branded a ‘loser’ by Twitter users after the former Disney star ‘humiliated Lili on International Women’s Day’ with his comments.

The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody star was also heavily criticized for smoking indoors throughout the episode, with fans claiming they were ‘secondhand’ disturbed by it.

Cole took a long drag on his cigarette and told listeners that “the clichés are very true when you’re working with somebody.”

He said: “It was very difficult. We both caused each other a lot of damage. Work became difficult because it was difficult to suspend our feelings for each other and did not allow us the luxury of overcoming distance.

“We are good friends and work very well together. I’m grateful I got to experience it, but all the clichés about someone you work with are so true.

Cole first revealed the pair’s split was “mutual”, but quickly changed his tune, admitting “it was me, I was gone, it was time”.

He continued: “It absolutely took longer because we worked together. There was a lot of pressure and I think if I had liked myself better I would have left earlier.

“I felt like I had to take care of a lot of people around me. I think the complicated thing is that I don’t care about my relationship.

“I didn’t think the public needed to know about my heartbreak, which made me grayer when I was in pictures with other people.”

Cole confirmed the split in August 2020, writing on Instagram: “Lili and I first split up in January of this year and in March we decided to separate for good.

“What an incredible experience I’ve had, I will always feel lucky and appreciate that I had the opportunity to fall in love.

“I wish him nothing but the greatest love and happiness going forward. I say everything about it, whatever else you hear doesn’t matter.

That same year, Lili came out publicly as bisexual on Instagram.

“Although I have never publicly announced it before, I am a proud bisexual woman,” she shared.

She waited to come out until after their breakup, detailing the LGBTQ&A podcast in September: “I didn’t want to put my ex away. [Sprouse] in a situation, it seems like it would have been a little weird to come out when I was in a straight relationship.

Cole and Lili first met on the set of the CW show Riverdale back in 2016, and fans speculated about their relationship when they flirted on social media in early 2017 and in interviews together later that year.

On screen, they play Jughead Jones (husband) and Betty Cooper (Reihart), two high school students who come from different worlds but find comfort in each other.

Superfans of their hit CW show were devastated when the couple called it quits after almost three years together just before the pandemic.

Cole has since moved on to 23-year-old model Ari Fournier, whom he has been dating since March 2021.
