Canon launches Auto Tracking and Auto Loop for its Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) camera to simplify content capture

Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA)

Canon Europe today expands the functionality of its PTZ cameras with two new applications via the Add-on Application System, allowing users to add new features to their video production. Canon (www.Canon-CNA.com) The new RA-AT001 Auto Track App and RA-AL001 Auto Loop App build on market demand to create a powerful stand-alone solution for video production without external hardware. These new paid applications are easy to configure and, combined with Canon’s 4K camera technology, are ideal for a wide range of scenarios, from higher education to corporate, live events, broadcasts and houses of worship.

The new apps launch with support for the CR-N700 camera, Canon’s flagship indoor 4K remote PTZ camera. In the future, Canon will expand the range of applications provided by the Accessory Application System, as well as the range of compatible remote camera models.

Automatic tracking

Powered by the advanced drive mechanism found in Canon’s PTZ cameras, the new Auto Tracking application automatically tracks people accurately, ensuring they are always in the frame without the intervention of the camera operator. This enables single and multi-camera recording without a camera operator, reducing the burden on AV staff or operators while still recording high-quality, professional content. The in-camera visual analysis system has exceptional tracking capabilities from full-body, upper-body, shoulders-up and other viewpoints, and from slow to fast walking speeds. The camera’s precision and smooth drive work in synergy with the pan/tilt mechanism for high-quality footage straight from the camera.

With a wide range of adjustment functions including composition, tracking sensitivity and priority display area, the CR-N700 can be tailored to many different use cases such as live production or corporate events, allowing you to capture professional-looking content with ease. The Composition function allows operators to set the optimal position to ensure that the subject is always well framed, while the tracking sensitivity offers up to ten levels of adjustment, meaning it can be used in a variety of situations.

Auto Loop application

Canon is also introducing its Auto Loop application today, which allows the camera to follow a pre-programmed automated pan/tilt/zoom movement without the operator having to manually adjust the shot. This is perfect for situations where operators need to perform simple, repetitive camera movements, such as live music events where the shot is from the drummer to the lead singer, to the audience, and back again. This allows directors and operators to focus on switching with other cameras and image adjustments, reducing workload and saving manpower and staff.

Two motion pattern options, loop or back-and-forth, give you more flexibility to select motions that suit each recording environment. To make your footage look natural in multi-camera setups, the app offers smooth start-stop acceleration/deceleration to simulate manual camera movements. These functions are easily programmed on a single screen, where operators can apply position and path settings, even access previews, and control movement speed and pause duration at each position.

Canon will debut this technology at ISE 2023 for higher education lecture capture and multi-camera enterprise studio zone, showing how these applications can automate content creation and simplify setup. Canon is at stand 3A800 from the 31ststreet January – 3rd February.

Applications will be available for download for use with the CR-N700 from April 2023. Other PTZ cameras will be supported in due course.
