I’m looking for the One! Shawn MendesHer love life has made headlines over the years while she has been putting dating in the public eye.

The “Stitches” singer was largely silent on her personal life until she started dating Camila Cabello. Mendes and the former Fifth Harmony member originally went public in 2019 after five years of dating.

At the time, Mendes spoke about how his relationship with Cabello inspired his career. “My song comes on the radio or something and I’m like, ‘It’s all about you. They were all about you,” he revealed in a 2020 Netflix documentary. In wonder. “He says what do you mean?” For example: “It’s all about you. Like every song I’ve ever written.”

The “In My Blood” singer noted that his songs don’t adequately “capture” his feelings for his then-girlfriend.

“I think it’s like when you see the moon or stars and you try to take a picture with your iPhone and then you just can’t,” he added. “It just doesn’t look right. And you say, “It must not be captured.” It’s just for us.”

For her part, Cabello opened up about how the therapy strengthened her relationship with Mendes.

“For better or for worse, we are very transparent with each other. I think that’s why we can trust each other so much, because it’s a very 3D human relationship,” he said. Brightness in its October 2021 cover story. “I’ll be venting or yelling about something and he’ll be like, ‘Did you talk to X about this? And I’ll be like, “No. I have to do a session. And he will do the same to me. I think even just the language like, “Hey, I’m sorry I was away from you or angry with you. I’m just struggling and a little anxious. This transparency helps a lot.”

A month later, the couple shocked fans when they announced their divorce. “Hey guys, we’ve decided to end our romantic relationship, but our love for each other is stronger than ever,” they wrote in a joint Instagram statement in November 2021. “We started our relationship as best friends and continue to be best friends. We appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward. Camila and Shawn.”

Before parting ways with the “Havana” entertainer, Mendes reflected on how love has improved his outlook on life.

“There’s a lot that happens when you first fall in love, because you really feel this support, this grounding, ‘Hey, when this is all over, I’m going to be okay,'” she detailed. And it really allows you to say, “Okay, well, if I’m going to do this [make music, etc.], I might as well be doing it for the right reasons and really, really, really enjoy it. Otherwise, I’d rather watch movies with you all day.”

Mysterious girl

During a fan Q&A in 2017, Mendes discussed how his personal life often inspired his music.

“I actually had a girlfriend for two years, so I wrote songs about her,” he shared at the time. But I write a lot of songs about love, which maybe I don’t understand exactly, but I think I almost understand, and I try my best, and I find it extremely entertaining, because I think love is the strongest feeling in a person. I can experience it, so I can write a million songs about it.”

After years of friendship, Mendes and Cabello confirmed they were dating in July 2019, but called it quits two years later.

“Their friends are pretty much all of the opinion that it was a classic case of too much, too soon,” a source said.
