According to John Oliver, Ron DeSantis had “the most bizarre dating tactics” ever

Against the odds John Oliver and Donald Trump they have at least one thing in common: an affinity for calling me the governor of Florida Ron DeSantis meatball nicknamed Ron. In Sunday’s episode last week tonight the late-night host admitted, “I hate to say it, but Trump still gets it,” calling the nickname “absolutely stupid and childish and hurtful in a way that’s really hard to articulate.”
Oliver, who previously targeted DeSantis for signing the controversial “Don’t Say Gay” bill, devoted much of the latest episode to “Business Fred Flintstone,” from DeSantis’ presidential chances to the bizarre alleged mating ritual. When it comes to a potential presidential bid against Trump, Oliver said calling DeSantis a “brainy Donald Trump” isn’t a “meaningful” assessment. “It’s like saying, ‘That new restaurant is better than this chicken pot pie that fell on the sidewalk,'” Oliver began. “Of course it is, but you’re not really giving me any useful information.”
Oliver also mentioned DeSantis’ new memoir, The courage to be free joking, “By the way, I have a little gift for our studio audience. Look under the seats! The gift is…not there! You don’t have to read it. Willingly!”
But the host, whose writing team just hours earlier won a sixth WGA Award for best comedy/variety talk series, seemed to be at his best when he dissected “the weirdest dating tactic I’ve ever heard” involving DeSantis. According to a former classmate, DeSantis used to tell dates that he liked Thai food, but deliberately pronounced it “thigh” food. Then, “If he was fixed, he would have made an excuse and left because he “didn’t want a girlfriend who fixed him,” Oliver said. “And if that’s true… wow.”

Then she imagined what it would be like to date DeSantis, who was already married to her Casey Since 2009, it would have potentially looked like this: “You’re going to dinner, and out of the blue, your date tells you that he really likes ‘thighy’ food. And you think, wait, he called Thai food “thigh” food? I must have heard wrong. But then he goes on to say that he knows a great “thigh” restaurant in the area, while staring at you very intently, almost studying your reaction. So, as politely as you can, you say, “Wait, you mean it Thai food? For example from Thailand? Then suddenly her face drops and she says, “Sorry, I forgot I have to go to the doctor tonight,” and walks away, leaving you with the check and the biggest first date disaster story of all time.
Oliver later retracted that outlandish claim while discussing DeSantis’ regular presence on Fox News, where he was asked to appear 113 times in four months, or about once a day. A producer reportedly even offered to let DeSantis pick the theme at one point, which is “just pathetic,” Oliver said. “I put it this way: If Fox News ever got a date with Ron DeSantis, they sure as hell wouldn’t correct him when he called him ‘thigh food.’
