March Madness Live will therefore receive CarPlay and Android Auto right before the first game on March 14th.

As anyone can easily guess, March Madness Live support on the two platforms does not allow drivers to watch games while the vehicle is in motion.

This means CarPlay and Android Auto are disabled by default, as no video apps can run when the car is moving. Companies limit car software to audio to reduce distractions behind the wheel.

As such, the March Madness Live app is headed to CarPlay with live game audio. This means that users can listen to their favorite games directly from their car’s head unit while driving.

For Apple users, the app requires at least iOS 16.1.

The number of apps that connect to Android Auto and CarPlay continues to grow. According to Warner Bros, one of the reasons these platforms are becoming more attractive is their increasing penetration in the automotive market. More than 98 percent of new vehicles sold in the United States are said to be equipped with CarPlay and Android Auto.

As a result, software developers can no longer ignore adding support for both, missing an important opportunity to target a growing audience of users.

Both Google and Apple are working around the clock to make their software available for more drivers. As adoption of Android Auto and CarPlay continues to grow, the two companies have set their sights on greater in-vehicle integration.

Android Automotive is Google’s big long-term bet. It’s an operating system that brings you the full infotainment experience behind the wheel, with features like Google Maps and Google Assistant giving you access to more features. For example, Google Maps can access battery range, while Google Assistant can even control the air conditioning system.

Apple, on the other hand, is working on the final touches for the new generation of CarPlay. Scheduled to debut later this year on MY 2024 vehicles, the new CarPlay will use all displays in the car. CarPlay brings the in-vehicle experience in line with the iPhone, as drivers are provided with new capabilities and a redesigned user interface, including gadgets. Like Android Automotive, CarPlay allows automakers to customize the experience to preserve brand identity.

The new CarPlay requires new hardware that will only be available on MY 2024 and later vehicles. Accordingly, there will be no option for models already on the market, as the current version of CarPlay will remain the only option on existing vehicles.
