A look at the stars who turned to online apps to find love

As it becomes more and more difficult to find love in the modern age, more and more celebrities are joining every day to sign up on dating apps.

From Hollywood stars to TV favourites, while some have found lasting relationships and others have suffered a lack of success, one disgruntled star has created her own app as a result.

MailOnline takes a look at the most famous online daters….

Channing Tatum

In 2019, the 42-year-old Magic Mike man was reported to have signed up to celebrity dating app Raya after breaking up with ex Jessie J.

According to US Weekly, she had a bit of fun with her autobiography, writing on her profile: “And yes, I was a stripper. I’m sorry’.

Sources told the publication that Channing added D’Angelo Brown’s sexually charged song Sugar to his online account.

Some lyrics from the first song on the album of the same name: “Oh sugar, when you’re close to me, you love me to my knees. And whenever you let me hit you, it’s sweet as honey when it comes to me.

Although it’s unclear how successful his online account was, he has since started dating actress Zoe Kravitz, 34, after meeting on a film set, and went public with their relationship in August 2021.

Lily Allen and David Harbor

Pop singer Lily Allen, 37, and her Stranger Things actor husband, 47, struck gold when they met on Raya and are set to get together in 2020.

Discussing the first meeting, David said: “I was alone in London, doing Black Widow on this app, dating and stuff.

“And yes, I started texting him, he was in Italy at the time – we got together, we went on a date at the Wolseley, and it’s, you know, incredible.”

David and Lily got married in Las Vegas, the ceremony was officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator.

The actor is now stepdad to Lily’s daughters Ethel, 11, and Marnie, 10, whom he shares with ex Sam Cooper.

Rebel Wilson

Rebel Wilson recently launched her own dating app, Fluid, for singles who don’t want to define their sexual orientation – after previously trying to find love online.

The 42-year-old Australian actress has now revealed what inspired her to dip her toe into the digital dating market.

Rebel, who is in a same-sex relationship with girlfriend Ramona Agruma, told his Instagram followers that he once used celebrity-only dating app Raya but didn’t like being asked to enter his sexual preference when logging in.

“I was with my friends and I thought, ‘Let’s make a dating app.’ I was on a dating app, Raya,” he began.

“My experience was basically identifying as a heterosexual woman, but somehow knowing that I was never 100 percent heterosexual.”

“I remember when I went on, you had to check the boxes of who you were,” he recalled.

“On the Raya it said, ‘Are you interested in men or women?’ And those were the only two options. But it felt weird to tick a box.

Helen Flanagan

Earlier this month, Helen Flanagan also joined Raya following her split from fiance Scott Sinclair.

The former Coronation Street actress, 32, looked incredible in one profile picture as she pouts for a selfie, while in another Helen donned a voluptuous exhibitionist, showing off her new titty work in a silk midi dress.

The TV star listed her occupation as “actress and social media” on the dating app.

Former Bristol Rovers Scott, 33, is said to have been ‘humiliated’ by the stars looking for love after they split in October.

Sam Smith

Pop superstar Sam Smith has bucked the trend and switched to Tinder after finding no A-list love in 2021 but Raya.

The 30-year-old Oscar-winning singer has the help of friends who “screen” their matches to make sure they find someone who’s right for them.

A source told The Sun: “Sam has been single for a long time and his pals are desperate to find someone. It’s hard enough to meet someone normally, but for the past year, Sam’s love life has suffered due to the epidemic.

“Many people on Tinder didn’t believe it was really Sam, because it’s not every day you see a superstar there. But all matches are screened by friends who send profiles to Sam in the hope that one of them might be The One.

The singer, who is non-binary and uses these/they pronouns, didn’t seem to find love online and has since dated rumored beau Christian Cowans – after they were linked over their love of fashion.

Cara Delevingne

Model Cara, 30, who has dated Jake Bugg and Miley Cyrus, is another fan of Raya’s.

Founded by American actor Jesse Johnson, half-sister of Fifty Shades of Gray star Dakota, its elite members trust it to be safe and ultra-private – an exclusive world for celebrities and those working in the “creative industries”.

And it boasts extraordinary security measures to boot.

To keep the general public at bay, potential members must first join the app and then find two sponsors who are already members.

Pál Mescal

Another reported user of the star app is Normal People actor and Oscar nominee Paul Mescal (27).

He reportedly signed up to the celebrity dating site in 2020 after the actor “knew he would be instantly recognised” on “regular” sites.

Amy Schumer

Comedian Amy Schumer, 41, is another celebrity who checked into Raya and met ex-boyfriend Ben Hanisch here.

After two years of beloved social media and red carpet appearances, the actress’ rep told People in 2015 that the pair “ended their relationship after careful consideration and remain friends.”

The actress now continued In 2018, she married Chris Fischer, with whom she has a three-year-old son, Gene.

Rebecca Adlington

Olympian Rebecca found success online and met her now-husband Andy Parsons in January 2018 on the dating app Bumble.

He said HELLO! “Any kind of dating is a big deal if you’re not used to it, and I’ve never been online.

“I’ve only been using the app for a month and Andy was the first person I dated so I feel like I’ve hit the jackpot. We chatted for a couple of weeks and the conversation flowed easily before we met on a crazy golf course in Liverpool.”
